Grown in Izumo, Shimane

Izumo, located in Shimane Prefecture, Japan, is a region rich in culture, mythology, history, and spiritual heritage. Its cloudy and humid weather provides the ideal conditions for cultivating green tea. These natural elements, combined with the care and craftsmanship of small-scale producers, result in vibrant matcha.

Choose The Right Matcha For You

Not all premium matcha is suited for lattes. That’s why we label our matcha by purpose: koicha (thick tea), usucha (thin tea), latte, and culinary. Koicha-grade matcha has a rich umami flavor with low bitterness—perfect for traditional preparation but easily overpowered by milk. Latte-grade matcha, on the other hand, has a bolder taste with slight bitterness that balances well with milk or sweetener. Choosing the right grade will make a big difference in your matcha experience.

Frequently asked questions

Are your matcha powders ceremonial grade?

There is no "ceremonial" tea in the Japanese matcha grading system. However, in a traditional tea ceremony, the host will make usucha (thin tea) and koicha (thick tea) for their guests.

At chacha maimai, we follow the Japanese tea grading system and rank matcha based on elements such as:

- purpose: for koicha / usucha / latte and desserts / culinary
- harvesting method: hand-picked / machine harvested
- milling process: stone-milled / machine

What's the shelf-life of these matcha powders?

The expiration date is marked on the back of each product. For optimal freshness, store matcha in a cool, dry place. Once opened, keep it air-tight to prevent oxidation and consume as soon as possible.

What's your shipping and return policy?

We offer free economy shipping on orders over $100. Expedited shipping options are also available at an additional cost. Currently we deliver only to the U.S.

A Blissful Boost of Morning Energy

Whenever I need an energy recharge, I reach for TAIGA. The moment I open the pouch, a fresh, grassy aroma bursts out; add hot water and it deepens into a fuller, almost sweet fragrance. I whisk it thin (usucha) to highlight the umami, and the balance of clean bitterness and subtle sweetness is spot-on. Silky foam, smooth mouthfeel, and a lingering sense of vitality—this bowl is the perfect companion for hectic mornings or an afternoon reset.

A good, strong matcha

I love the strong taste. Truly reminds me of the matcha I had in Japan.
